How far is our office from Portage Park?
About two miles by road. We're at 5841 W Belmont Ave, Chicago, IL 60634, on W Belmont Ave just west of N Central Ave in Belmont Cragin. Portage Park sits directly north of us, so for most 60634 and 60641 addresses the trip is a straight run south on Central.

From the park itself, with the pool and the fieldhouse, you're at the near end of the range. From Six Corners, where Irving Park, Cicero and Milwaukee meet, take Irving Park west to Central, then south. From the Jefferson Park Transit Center at the north edge of the neighborhood, Central runs straight down to Belmont.
Same-day emergency dental care for Portage Park patients
Our hours are 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM, Monday through Friday. We hold same-day emergency slots at 8:00 AM, 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM every weekday. Phone when we open and the front desk gives you one of them. If you call after 1:00 PM, we may be able to see you later that day by appointment; if not, you get the first opening the next morning.
We don't take walk-ins. The call comes first; it's what has a chair ready when you arrive.
The visit covers the exam, the panoramic X-ray and, when the diagnosis allows it, the treatment, all with our dentists at one sitting. A severe toothache is diagnosed and treated at its cause. An emergency extraction, simple or surgical, is done in our office. Swollen or bleeding gums and a lost or broken crown are handled here as well. Your insurance card, when you have one, and a list of your medications should come along.
What an emergency dental visit costs for Portage Park patients
$99 covers the emergency exam, the consultation and the panoramic X-ray. Any treatment carries its own price, written out for you before any of it starts, so the choice stays yours.
Most PPO plans, many Medicare dental plans and selected HMO plans are among those we work with, and if yours is one of them, the exam and X-ray are billed to your plan. Treatment costs can go through CareCredit, Cherry, Sunbit, Eve Financial and Proceed financing. Every plan we work with is named on the cost and insurance page, along with the financing companies.

After hours for Portage Park patients
We close at 1:00 PM on weekdays and stay closed Saturday and Sunday. Phones, though, are answered around the clock. Call (773) 555-0199 at any hour and you reach a person, not a recording, who writes down your name, number and symptoms and reserves 7:00 AM on the next business morning for you. On a Friday night, that's Monday's first slot. Pain control tips for the hours in between live on the weekend and after-hours page.
A few symptoms need a hospital tonight, not us tomorrow. Swelling that has reached the eye or the neck, difficulty getting air or liquid down, or a jaw that may be broken belong in an emergency room. The nearest is Community First Medical Center at Addison and Central, in Portage Park. Hospitals treat spreading infection and injuries; they generally don't treat the tooth itself. That part is ours, the next weekday morning.
Emergency dental services for Portage Park families
A kid who catches a tooth on the edge of the Portage Park pool needs that knocked-out tooth kept in milk or saliva and in our chair within the hour. A dental abscess with a swollen cheek is drained and treated the same day. A broken tooth from a fall at Wilson Park or Dickinson Park gets a smoothed edge, a crown when the tooth can be kept, or an extraction when it can't. Wisdom tooth pain is examined the day you call, and wisdom tooth extraction happens here when the tooth needs to go. Cracked dentures and partials are repaired through our emergency denture repair service.
Portage Park is one of eight neighborhoods on our service area page, and the closest of the ones north of us.
Frequently asked questions
I take the 85 Central bus. Where do I get off?
Get off at Belmont. The office is on the north side of W Belmont Ave, a short walk west of Central toward Austin. The 77 Belmont bus also stops along the avenue if you're coming from the east or west instead. In January, bundle up for the wait; the stops on Central are open to the wind.
Is there an emergency dentist open at 7am near Portage Park?
Yes. We open at 7:00 AM Monday through Friday, about two miles south of Portage Park on W Belmont Ave. The first same-day emergency slot is 8:00 AM, so you can be seen before work. Call (773) 555-0199 as soon as you're up; we don't accept walk-ins, so the call comes first.
My crown came off at dinner near Six Corners. Is that an emergency?
It's worth a same-day visit. Keep the crown, don't glue it, and avoid chewing on that side. Call in the morning and we check the tooth underneath. If it's sound, the crown is re-cemented. If the crown is damaged or the tooth has changed, we explain what the tooth needs and the next step.
